2.Plan what you need
Moving your life’s possessions and that of your family, can be a huge task, unless you organize well beforehand. This takes planning. Steven Covey, author of “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” stated if he only had 3 minutes, he would spend 1 minute planning the other two. The same goes for your removal or any important decisions in life.
Planning is the key. It may seem like a nuisance or you may think you don’t have the time, but it will streamline your time and also help you delegate tasks. Following is a week by week time-line in the lead up to the big moving day. This will give you an idea of some things you might like to consider in your planning.
Discuss with the family
- Discuss the move as a family and how during the next few weeks you will be going through your home and yard and clearing out what you don’t want to take.
- Ask for co-operation and if you have children, see if they would like to go through their own things and decide what they may no longer need.
- Make a time that will work for them and you to do that and put it on your calendar – then do it!
Incentivize the kids!!
Perhaps the lure of a garage sale where they can convert their goods into cash may be an incentive. They may like to organise the garage sale, with your guidance – and that way you can further reduce your stress-load.
