1 WEEK TO GO

“Slow and steady wins the race”

Avoid the urge to start tossing unrelated items into boxes. Keep packing in a systemised way, remembering to number your boxes and add them into your Removal Notebook.

If moving out of the area, pick up any dry cleaning etc that may still be outstanding.

Dismantling
The following items MUST be disassembled. Your quotation includes transporting the items, but NOT dismantling them or putting them back together.
Computer desks eg. from Ikea – prefab

Swing sets

Trampolines

Pet Equipment
Aviaries – need to be pulled down and scrubbed clean

Dog Kennels must be hosed out and clean.

Begin to prepare for the actual ‘Removal Day’

Create a Moving Day Sanity Saver box – the ‘Priority Box’ by packing a kettle, coffee, tea, sugar, long life milk, mugs and a few spoons. Then add things as you think of them. A can-opener, a corkscrew. Some snack food, hand soap, kitchen detergent, cleaning materials, toilet paper, a plug, paper towels, hammer, shifting spanner, screwdriver, torch, possibly even a light globe or two. An extension cord, plastic bags could also be useful.

A second set of priority boxes with fresh bed linen, pillows and doonas, towels, PJ’s, toiletries is also a lifesaver. Use your imagination. What would you like immediate access to that first few hours after you arrive in your new home. Clearly mark them and even put a coloured sticker so you and the removalist can easily identify them. It will make moving day a lot easier.

Mark these boxes: ‘Priority Box -On last: Off First’.

THE DAY BEFORE
Stress reduction
There are some key things that you can do on the day before your removal, particularly ensuring that everything is “ready to go” on the day. Check with your solicitor and the agent regarding

  • settlement times and
  • arrangement of keys to your new property then.
  • Confirm with the removalist regarding the settlement time as this is very important for the removal company to arrive at the correct time.

Confirm pick-up time, the day before
As the men are scheduled to arrive at a certain time, unless adequate notice is given- If they arrive and are not able to load (or unload) we will need to charge for their waiting time. Please give as much notice of change in load / unload time to avoid extra charges.

Finances
Arrange how you’ll be paying Gosford Furniture Removals. This can be by cash, bank cheque or credit card. The terms of payment are on your removal contract. Payment is preferred prior to delivery and is one less thing to think about on the day.

Things that could make the move easier for you
If you can, do all the washing the day before the move, saving a laundry overflow the first day there.

If any clothing is going into storage, make sure if it is washed, that it is fully dry before you store them. Remember also NEVER to store food unless it is canned.

Clean the fridge and then place items you need back in there. It will be ready to be switched off the next morning after your perishables have been placed in an esky.

If you have goods going into store, never store food as it encourages vermin.

It’s handy to keep a couple of empty milk or juice bottles and fill them with water and freeze. They can then keep your food frozen during the move. If you are moving more than a few hours away, give the perishables to your neighbours.

Disconnect the computer, stereo and TV equipment (label each connection so you know what goes where!)

Plan the journey
Organise any items you’ll need to take in your car. Remember keys, any medicines, jewellery, and important papers.
